The Sovereign handle is part Sorby's brilliant handle and interchangeable tool system that allows turners to mix and match a huge range of accessories and matching tooling for an extreme level of versatility, flexibility, and customization never before seen.Available in two basic lengths, 16" and 22", Sovereign handles not only accept a wide range of tools specifically designed to match them, they will also take any of Sorby's standard unhandled tool blades that have a 5/8" diameter shaft.Optional adapter collets (1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" - see note on sizing below) are available to further increase the range of tools the Sovereign hanldes will accept.The handles are made of steel and aluminum alloy to give the best strength, balance and vibration dampening qualities.They come with a durable Softex grip for extra comfort and additional knurling provides a further non-slip surface. Made in England.Several optional extras for the Sovereign System add to it's versatility and appeal:Counterweight - Although the handles are beautiful balanced some turners like a bit of extra weight for control. Fits both handles.Side Handle - For extra control. Can be attached to either the side or top of the tool depending on use.Threaded Handle Coupler - For those turners requiring an even longer handle. Enables the turner to fit two handles together for extra leverage. The handles can be connected in any combination up to 44".Note: American-made tools are measured by bar diameter. European brands are measured by flute size. Therefore the 3/8" collet is designed for a European 1/4" gouge, and the 1/2" collet for a 3/8" gouge, while the 1/2" gouge will fit directly into the handle.
